What is niobium?

Niobium, once known as columbium, is a rare, versatile, and highly sought-after metal discovered in the early 19th century. It's cherished for its ability to form a naturally hypoallergenic material, making it perfect for sensitive skin. Its rarity and unique characteristics make it a treasure in the aerospace industry and a marvel in jewelry making.

What are unique properties of niobium?

Hypoallergenic Nature:
Ideal for wearers with sensitive skin, niobium is as gentle as it is durable.

Corrosion Resistance:
Niobium is impressively resistant to corrosion, maintaining its luster and
finish even under harsh conditions.

Strength and Lightness:
Despite its strength, niobium is remarkably lightweight, making it a joy to
wear all day.

Where does niobium get its colors from?

Anodizing niobium transforms it from its naturally silvery color to a spectrum of stunning hues without the use of dyes. This electrochemical process alters the oxide layer on the metal, allowing it to refract light and display a rainbow of colors. Each piece becomes a wearable light show, permanently altered yet completely safe and durable.

Why do you use niobium in jewelry making?

At Solorra, we choose niobium not just for its beauty and versatility but for the freedom it gives us in design. This metal allows us to create pieces that are as vibrant and unique as our wearers. From sleek, contemporary designs to intricate pieces that tell a story, niobium’s adaptability is key to our creative process.
